DO GENDER STEREOTYPES PLAY A ROLE IN THE PROFESSION WE CHOOSE?
Yes, Gender stereotypes play a role in choosing a profession. Genders are being suggested to choose a profession accordingly and work and study in a field, not only but at times this becomes a forceful thing for any gender to accept that profession according to gender.
Women are told to opt for a field of professions like teaching, nursing, or homemaker and men in engineering, doctor or businessmen but have they really prescribed profession according to genders? There are no such things as men’s and women’s jobs or occupations or professions. In fact, females are also entrepreneurs and males are also teachers. Anyone can choose a profession in which they want to excel because professions are not attached to any rules and genders are also not deciding factor for doing anything.
Society is patriarchal moreover and they keep on judging all genders. We have women as sports players and also as IAS and men as chefs and fashion designers so we should not bring any type of gender stereotypes in things where it doesn’t at all matter. And mostly family and society should stop teaching children in the early ages that ‘this thing is for boys and that is for a girl’ because what is taught as base become a pillar and if from early ages these things are burdened on child’s mind slowly it becomes practice for them to accepting without thinking of their own choices and interest. Society should stop practicing these things because it’s everyone right to do what they want professionally and personally.

GENDER STEREOTYPES HAVE PLAYED A KEY ROLE IN THE DISRESPECT OF WOMEN. IS THIS STATEMENT TRUE?
Yes, gender stereotypes have made women feel disrespected and inferior to men. Which hour or day have women not faced discrimination? She faces it daily, in every aspect and in all terms. It has become a habit of facing discrimination and inequality for the female gender.
If a girl wants to study something apart from normal education, then she is not supported, if she wants to pursue a career in her area of interest let’s say Army or scientist or officer before she asks for something the very first advice given by family will be you can’t do that because it’s difficult and it is meant for men. So, this is not only a gender stereotype but it is judging on the basis of gender.
There are many such examples where this is observed, like cooking if men do it, he is said cooking is not meant for them and when women work and also manages, she is told they don’t need to work and focus on family and children. At each and every stage or phase women are also suffering and listening to society’s comments and criticisms because judging and criticizing is the easiest task to do but the women facing knows what is she going through.
Start from childhood girls and boys are divided on the basis of very basic things like clothing, games, sports, activity, education, etc., and from that phase till women is at old age still faces gender divide and we can’t imagine how much she faces and suffers. But it should not be existing more because women are the only ones who are blamed and also disrespected. So we as individuals, not practice gender stereotypes.
In the words of Eva Mendes, “People are incapable of stereotyping you, you stereotype yourself because you’re the one who accepts roles that put you in this rut or in the stereotype” We should stop accepting what is irrelevant and disrespecting to us and if we accept then it will be never-ending.

    PERIOD POVERTY AND STIGMA
Menstruation, Time of the month, Period, Women’s problems, Female troubles, etc., and many more words are used for one specific thing but it’s not about how many words but are used harshly and depicted as offensive and shameful which makes women feel inferior. A study conducted by the International Women’s Health Coalition found that around 5000 slang words are used for the term menstruation in 10 different languages.
Periods are nothing like offending thing but people look upon this as if it such shameful and then they discriminate among females when they are having periods and the way treat women’s during that time is just a very upsetting part of the whole menstruation phase, still many communities believe in the differentiation of women and make them do all chores separately like not entering the kitchen, live separately for that duration, not allowing to move out of one place, this kind of stigmas are faced by women in many rural areas or in a patriarchal society.
Period poverty is so common that it affects girls and their life in many ways, including not having proper access to washrooms, not able to afford sanitary pads, skipping schools for that number of days, and then gradually discontinue education. Still, many rural areas don’t have proper water supply, sanitation, medical facilities, and this results in poor health and then it becomes a major problem, for e.g., during periods if women face any problems, then consulting a doctor is suggested but lack of facilities and being poor, they neglect serious things.
Periods are a topic to be discussed openly because it’s not only about women but it’s for all and gets educated about this thing, whether schools, colleges or workplace. Girls skip schools because of lack of sanitation and hygiene and are the same at the workplace for women too. Poverty makes women sacrifice and survives in every aspect and if it continues then there will no improvement in anything and the present scenario will become permanent.
The first step to solve these can be education to each and everyone and making access to health care and sanitation. Also making people aware and make them widen their thoughts on these topics so that society would be a better place for women to stand equally with each individual.

DOES SOCIETY DISCRIMINATE AGAINST WOMEN WITH ADOPTED CHILDREN
Yes, society discriminates against women who adopt a child. Society has always something to say to women either she is doing something good and earning and managing everyone or even if she doesn’t do anything, all are ready with their unasked suggestions and advice.
If a woman wants to adopt there may be reasons like complications in pregnancy or not able to conceive but that doesn’t mean she is incapable or not at par with other women around her. And if a child is adopted it will be mutually decided between partners but discrimination still appears and they are taunted by not only outsiders but family members too.
Women as soon as married is expected to plan for the child and make a family so that society doesn’t talk ill about family and in-laws but her decisions are not considered and pressurize them for this. And above all, if she is unable to give birth due to some reasons then they blame her personally. Many people talk about adopting a child and growing them in as part of the family but in reality, very few do this.
Society still discriminates but there nothing that can stop women from doing some good work and by adopting she is giving life to an orphan which is not less than giving birth.

    CHALLENGES FACED BY FEMALE SPORTSPERSON
Women sportsperson are given less importance and their hard work is not much considered because after all they are females and all-female gender have to face issues and challenges be it A Girl, An Adult, A Celebrity, An Entrepreneur, or any aged women. Women each day has to face challenges personally, socially, mentally, economically and the fact is she faces and survives too like a warrior.
Being a sports person, the major part is the health, they should be fit and for these, they need to have proper diet and intake of things, but being a women menstruation is which she also has to go through but in spite of that she doesn’t stop herself and continues to play her sport. This is a personal challenge women sportsperson face, and despite that, they are not given the proper facilities.
Another challenge is Pay, they are not paid as much men are paid in that field. The tournament and matches don’t have that same prize or importance in comparison to men’s tournament, the comparison and discrimination are observed too.
Whether they are in a good position as a sportsperson or not but in the end it’s sure that at some point they have to leave that job or sports because women have to look after children, family, and take up responsibility.
The most common and underrated thing a woman hears is you can’t be a sportsperson because it’s about physical strength and being a girl, you can’t be that strong and take up sports as a career and by these types of division between girls and boys make them loose morale or end up making a decision which all suggest, even if she doesn’t agree. Sometimes they are judged based on the clothes which they wear and when they are on the field or ground, people always want to keep commenting and judging each time when women do something.
There are many challenges but Women are no less now because they are limitless and they face each challenge and still keep going.

SEXISM IN THE INDIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY
Sexism is common in areas of discussion be it a workplace, media, or entertainment industry. It exists because people accept it by supporting sexism and content which makes a gender lower than others. The lyrics of the songs have been so drastically changed in every term and any harsh or bad language is being used and we have also witnessed that women singers are less preferred because major of the industry is taken up by men.
Songs made by artists in the nineties and back in past times were so unbiased and had no content which would stereotype gender or make one gender inferior or superior but now the song depicts something else and makes a woman gender as an object. Item songs are the most wanted in these times in each movie and directors or producers also think it’s women who have to be lead in item songs and sung by them but other songs from the same movie have an only male lead singer, so gender stereotype exists here too, in fact, if we can conclude then sexism and discrimination and gender divide and many things exist in each field.
It’s not we don’t have good songs we have songs where women are depicted so decently, songs like ‘Maa’ from movie Tare Zameen pe and ‘Aisa kyu maa’ from Neerja, they are one of the finest in each term but now the sexism and foul language has changed the view of the music industry. Women should be equally given a part in the music industry because no gender is a fix or permanent for any kind of field.

HOW ‘FREE’ ARE WOMEN IN THIS FREE INDIA?
‘If all men are born free, how is it that all women are born slaves?’ – Mary Astell
Free India, where all men have rights and opportunities to themselves but women are not even given chance to select their favorite color because she is a girl and according to society pink should be her color. This is just the basic example of how much free women really are!!
Before considering India as a whole, we should first consider how much is she free at her home, her surrounding, her society, and with her own people. And unfortunately, they are not safe at their homes also in some cases where this happens because of poverty, unemployment, lack of education and a major portion is the patriarchal society.
if women are home there are chances of the near ones or relatives torturing them, whether she is heading out somewhere then too then many rules are headed on them, before choosing any career she is questioned multiple things, not only these but if she is raped or suffered from violence, she is only blamed for being taking freedom for granted, and on other hand, we talk about women empowerment and safety.
Women can’t travel alone, she can’t study what she wants, she can’t choose her career over anything, she is not allowed to wear what she likes and more things like that are faced commonly by many women, but there are exceptions where some have changed their patriarchal thoughts and given women choices of doing whatever she likes and wants. Each day we witness discrimination and inequality, Cases of rapes, domestic violence, and sexual assault are increasing. In this scenario, no women are free because if it has not happened with them now, but there’s a fear of happening anytime.
There is a long way for women in India to be free because women are always under someone or something which becomes a hindrance for her and her safety and freedom.

WHY IS IT THAT ONLY WOMEN ARE EXPECTED TO DISPLAY THEIR MARITAL STATUS?
Women are termed as Miss, Ms., Mrs. According to their status whether married or unmarried. But men are not termed as differently and common word has been applied as Mr., only young male is called as Master but apart from that all adults are categorized or known as Mr. So why women have to display their status by adornments and titles as to whether married or not?
Married women are told to put on adornments such as ‘sindoor’ or ‘toe ring’ or ‘bangles’ as wearing this will identify women as married. And as per this, they are titled as Mrs. And so, after being in each area of activity or work they have to introduce themselves as Mrs. Young girls are referred to as Miss. And the ones who are older and not married are titled as Ms. So, from these titles we can say that women are mostly expected to display their status because it old-time tradition or rule which still continues and as always there are some patriarchal thinking behind this too.
By this practice one thing observed is differentiation among women’s and it is accepted by them because there is no other option or way out to display their status. But if titles are not given, then adornments are compulsory for each married woman and are taught to wear them because they are married and it will differentiate them from others, it should be done according to traditions and social beliefs which makes women do so whether she likes or doesn’t.
It still exists because it was made in the old times and so once rule made applies to a long time until and unless someone makes an effort or brings a change in society.

IS THE MALE GAZE STILL RELEVANT?
The gaze is a concept or idea in the way in which the camera views females. The male gaze theory was first essayed in ‘Visual pleasure and narrative cinema’ in 1973 and published in 1975. Male gaze refers to depicting women as sexual objects and the pleasure of the male viewers.
Yes, it is still relevant and will continue because the cinema has made it very common to make a view of this and is accepted by both male and female, some female accept that they are sexual objects because they think it is needed or it should be like this so women will be viewed and given exposure. According to Mulvey, women are viewed in two ways as passive voyeurism – sadism and fetishization, and men as active.
But due to this woman are depicted as some kind of objects and not as equal to male because the one who is viewing may think that women are just sexual objects or kind of less than men. By showing these, it can be said that still patriarchalism is seen because women are looked upon by men and so they are considered inferior to men. And cinema has made this view about men’s and women’s because what they show and how they show is what people see and consider and so if there are changes in gazing, this will divert the view then the concept will be less relevant.

DISCRIMINATION AGAINST GIRL CHILD AT HOME
Discrimination against girl child begins before the girls has been born because this society needs boy child only and so when a woman is planning for a child or during her pregnancy, she has a lot to hear from society and its people and from that point onwards a woman has to face discrimination and inequality. This discrimination between genders is from past generations and still is observed.
There are many families who don’t want a girl child because they think it will be burden to have a girl because many things need to be fulfilled for her starting from her childhood expenses till her marriage. The discrimination at a very basic level like providing boys with proper education and girls with less or no education, or giving boys a chance to decide for their own career and no opportunity to the girl to decide for her own life.
When a boy is born there are grand celebrations but at the birth of girl there no such thing and they blame their fortunate and say our luck was bad that we had the birth of girl child. By listening to these things for girls it feels very saddening that people are so narrow-minded. The mentality of society is orthodox, it was not only in past but is continued in these times also.
Boys and girls are discriminated against on clothes, their studies, their activities, their behavior, and many more things. The basic thing thought to a girl in her family is how to manage the kitchen and family because she is female and boys are not taught this because they will become bread earners for the family.
This kind of discrimination still prevails in this era too and in fact, it will continue so in coming times also because discrimination, inequality is the root cause of any other issues related to women. It will only be reduced when we keep our thoughts open and treat each gender equally and consider everyone at par.
