Men are 52% more likely to have access to the internet than women in the world’s least developed countries. Not everyone has access to technology. There are a large number of women who do not own a simple smartphone. They do not have the necessary digital literacy, have less understanding of technology and have no presence on social media platforms. Lack of education, affordability and prevalence of socio- cultural norms are the key factors restriction women’s online presence. Bridging this digital gender divide requires improved access to internet devices, education and training. The key to bridging the digital divide is recognizing the fact that each individual should have equal access, regardless of gender.
