Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
Mental Disorders are serious conditions that can affect your thinking, mood, and behaviour. They may be occasional or long-lasting. They can affect your ability to relate to others and function each day. Mental disorders are common; more than half of all Americans will be diagnosed with one at some time in their life. But there are treatments. People with mental disorders can get better, and many of them recover completely. For example, mental disorders can raise your risk for physical health problems such as stroke, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. The foundation of every adult is laid in their childhood, so the foundation of sound mental health must be also laid in the formative years. So it should be understood that since our childhood we should make our children capable of dealing with emotions and stress.

As a general notion we always try to distinguish between the mental and physical health. But in reality the two are interrelated. A person is considered healthy when he has a good mental health leading to a healthy physical body. On the other hand poor mental health can negatively impact your physical health.
Today in the society we are prioritising looks over everything this is the reason why everyone one person among three is health conscious to the level that they only focus on the physical aspect completely ignoring the mental health. There have been instances that a person who’s physically fit and fine end up in depression ultimately affecting their over-all health and so it here becomes important that we should prioritise both.
In the modern world today many issues related to mental health are being raised and acknowledge Which include the following: cronic depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder which so includes sleep disorders, psychological disorders etc.
WHO has rightly stated that “mental health is more than just the absence of mental disorder or disabilities”.
It here becomes necessary to acknowledge that mental health issues are on peak as almost 59 % of the population across the world are suffering from the same.
Both the aspects should be given equal importance abd should be acknowledged actively with adequate Measures for the people suffering in silence.

Mental health is equally important to physical health. YES, YES YES!!!!! We often hear people say, take care of your body but nobody ever says, take care of your mental health? Nobody considers mental health as a health-related issue. Everyone talks about exercise, jogging, hitting the gym, etc. But they never really talk about their mental health. Mental health includes our psychological, social, and emotional well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and how we act in our daily lives. There are some reasons why mental health is just as important as physical health. Our mental health can affect our physical health, our mental health can affect our work/education, our mental health can affect our families. Untreated mental illness and its connection with violent crimes and the use of drugs and alcohol, etc. Nurturing mental health doesn’t just let us perform better in our daily functions but can also help us combat some of the physical health problems directly linked to mental health conditions. For example, heart disease and stress are related, so managing stress might have a positive outcome on heart disease. Mental health isn’t just something we can deal with once and then get over. It’s important in every stage of our life. From infancy all the way into adulthood, mental health is something we need to be cognizant of and handle with care.

“Our mental health is something that impacts our eating and sleeping habits and has a lot to do with our physical health as well. It is important to address our mental health needs, or oftentimes we will feel the impact of it in other areas of our health as well.” Bisma Anwar, LMHC

Mental health has remained a taboo in India. Our society never talked about mental health importance and it was always stereotyped but now we know that mental health is as important as physical health and it should be taken into consideration. When you see a person struggling with mental health -help them, when you are struggling with mental health issues, ask for help. Your Mental Health should be a priority.
