Equality -A distant Dream
The world is full of endless things, but sometimes small things make a big difference in our lives. There are issues to which not many people pay attention, but they have grabbed society like a rattrap.
A social issue that I would like to understand in great depth is caste-based discrimination, which has been prevailing in our society for ages. In ancient times, the Varna system had made this problem deeper and widened the gap amongst various castes. This gap is still prevalent, and it seems like a distant dream to fill it with brotherhood and love.
Caste-based discrimination mostly occupies its place in rural areas as compared to urban areas. Thinking about the examples of this reminds me of my village, where I observed that people of upper caste sit on chairs and sofas and low caste people find space on the ground while discussing some topics. Another example can be seen when some guests visit someone’s home. The upper caste people are offered tea or coffee in the same glass, but the people belonging to the lower caste are served in fibre glasses or extra utensils kept only for them. This can also be seen in marriages where upper-class people have a lavish area for celebration. On the contrary, lower-class people are given a different place.
There are both emotional and mental effects of this issue. Although not visible, people suffer a lot, and these things even lead to various serious problems like suicide and murder. Reservation was brought in as a way to solve the problem, but it did not have much effect; rather, it made people dependent and not focus on their development. Basically, to reduce the gap and resolve the conflicts, the youth must rise to make people aware of new trends and developments that society wishes to pursue. Also, the upper caste people should understand everyone’s worth and accept that all are God’s creation, so no one has the right to discriminate against anyone on any basis.
I would like to take initiatives to make this issue vanish. In fact, I have talked to people in my area and persuaded them not to follow these hierarchical norms, spreading awareness that they must come out of the conventional zone and adopt an orthodox mindset.
To make society more prosperous and colourful, we must bring everyone together and let the rainbow of equality shine in the sky.
