TOPIC – “Examples of Patriarchy in Everyday Life”
Patriarchy means a society or community in which men hold the power and women are largely excluded from it. Patriarchy in Hindi is called”Pitrasatta”. According to me, it exists in society because it exists in the mentality of most people. If we start looking for examples, the list will go on but to summarise we’ll take a few non-negligible ones.
❇Household Chores- Everyone lives in a house but it is believed that women must complete all household related tasks as a duty because she is female member. It doesn’t matter whether she is a working woman. A homemaker is regarded as the freest member of the family even though she works 24*7. I think males should be taught right from childhood that helping their mother, sister and wife is a sign of true masculinity. But sadly, even mothers carry forward this patriarchy by asking their sons not to do any kind of household work and telling daughters that they should learn these chores as they have to do it at their in-law’s place.
❇ Weak Gender- Yes, Women are considered weaker than males in our society. I don’t know on what basis this patriarchy was formed, I mean a woman suffers pain in the form of the reproductive cycle since the age of around eleven or twelve and for half of her life, at the time of giving birth etc. And still, male-dominant society never accepts the fact that “A who can form a new life, can nurture it she can do anything in life no matter how hard it is to be done.”
❇Always her mistake- If a girl is being stalked or chased, people would say it’s her fault, maybe she was luring him. Like seriously, why would a girl will like to have eyes on her all the time?? It is time to change this wrong mentality of people and I included women because they also blame girls in such situations. This kind of thinking gives birth to Heinous crimes against women because men know that eventually, women will be regarded as guilty. It’s high time to change this patriarchy by teaching our sons to regard every woman as their mothers and sisters and respect their partners as well.
“They should treat their wives as they want their Daughters to be treated by their son-in-law”
As we all know “Patriarchy cannot be demolished in One day but if constant efforts will be made in this direction then definitely One day.”
All we have to do is clear our windows, not of our workspace but our headspace. The window through which we perceive this world as it lies inside us and only we can clear the dirt of patriarchy. It’s important because then only we can recognize that any particular task or job requires skill and it is not based on gender.
“Gender Equality is the Need of the Hour”.
