A girl child is discriminated from the moment she is born. From the kind of things she is allowed to do, to the kind of things she is supposed to do, everything is decided for her against no regard to her mental and physical well-being. She is supposed to sit “modestly” and dress “modestly”. She is supposed to be hospitable from the young age. She is supposed to be a good cook, and a good server too. Because after all, when she grows up, her only job would be take care of her and her husband’s family.

A girl child is told time and time again to behave in a way that wouldn’t bring disrespect to her parents in future when she is married off to some guy. How is it ok that a literal child is put under so much burden of patriarchy and misogyny? How have we, as a society, still managed to carry these discriminating norms to this day and age? It is obviously very late now to change our harmful norms and practices, but it’s still not too late. We need to realise that whether it is a girl or a boy, they are equally human and deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.
