One industry that is arguably one of the most competitive industries across the world is the beauty industry. This is because many different beauty products are on sale today compared to how it was fifty or one hundred years ago. This has led to a situation where consumers face a lot of confusion when it comes down to choosing the right product for them. The cosmetic industry has grown so much and the executives at top of the companies have a high reputation. On one side they are making a lot of money, but on the other hand, they are in some way a source of discrimination in beauty products. Many of the beauty products, however, are being used mainly for discrimination reasons. All of these products and many more have been proven to be extremely damaging to the cells in our bodies. People get blinded by all the marketing put up around such brands that they don’t think about what they are putting on their faces. They also use them to discriminate based on different color codes.

You might object: ‘How can beauty standards be racist? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and just because most white people agree that Nina Garcia is beautiful doesn’t mean they’re collectively imposing their will on women of color. She’s winning these contests because she’s objectively the best. The beauty standards that devalue black skin and favor white skin are not just an unfortunate coincidence: they are a form of discrimination. And the discriminatory consequences may be far worse in business than elsewhere. Yet the fact remains that most mainstream beauty products are formulated not with women of color in mind, but with white people. Using the wrong shades of foundation, concealer, or blush can make dark-skinned women look ashy or washed-out—and may even give them a sunburn.

Beauty products are a source of discrimination, it’s not because they are on purpose it’s just how they are advertised to attract consumers. However, we can see through the clear layers and pay attention to what is being said. Companies advertise their product by showing “normal” white humans with neutral color skin making them the norm and showing all other skin types as abnormal and unattractive. Women of color should feel comfortable wearing whatever they want. Beauty should not be a source of discrimination. Although for some women it can seem like it is and some people will say it’s wrong to wear a certain product, everyone has their reasons for doing so. If you like something then go ahead and wear it.
