Pride Month and Its Importance

There are only a few significant events that have made their space to the modern world, and one of them is pride month. Before we consider the importance of pride month, let’s step into some history.

On June 28, 1969, a riot took place in New York City in the USA at the Stonewall Uprising. Back then, it was common for NY police to raid homosexuality bars and harass the community. Due to such behavior, the American Consitution banned homosexuality and imposed rigid laws on the community. On June 28, the community decided to fight back for their rights and protested for several days. The succeeding year, the first Pride Parade took place on the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. The heritage continues today as well for the awareness and protection of the queer community.

Since that day, the LGBTQ+ community has been fighting for their rights to marry, adopt, and start a family. Every year, they are parades across the world. The situations have changed during the covid period, but the online platform has been a boon lately. The community fight against discrimination as we still have a long way to go.

Pride Month is a significant event in history, and maybe, it happened for the better. The celebration of this month is a reminder that belonging to LGBTQ+ is not a disease to cure. We all are humans belonging to the same race, and we should be treated equally.

Happy Pride Month!
