Should self-defense for girls be made compulsory?
Self defense is a series of acts which can be used to protect one’s self from any kind of harm, usually physical. In the modern era, the increasing number of crimes against women makes the need of self defense for women prominent. It is probable for a woman to be having a predator in her home or locality itself, at school, college or even in the work place, or rather in public places like shopping malls, cinemas, gyms, parks, etc. Hence, expecting the best, but preparing for the worst, women must learn self defense, thus self defense for girls be made compulsory.
Self defense does not necessarily have to be judo- karate kind of sports. It also has a lot to do with one’s body language and the way one looks. If one’s body language looks shabby and makes one look like an easy target to the attacker, the chances of being attacked are higher. Women also must be provided specific detailed knowledge and training to deal with expected situations that might arise in daily life along with the use of things we use in daily life, such as pens, bags, belts, watches, for self defense. This will not only help specially abled women, but also elderly women.
Despite a number of efforts by the government, revolutionists, feminists, activists, public figures and responsible citizens to curb crimes against women, they have all fallen null and void. The society is becoming a much more unsafe place for women to live, day by day. This will drag the human race to its doom much sooner than expected. But, to ruin ourselves, and let the criminals and predators continue to feed on our women and take control in their hands, is something we will definitely not accept. We will thrive to achieve all sorts of betterment.

The government can take the initiative to set camps for young girls, young women, middle aged women and also elderly women. Volunteers from around the globe can put in their efforts to help women learn and grow. It will not only increase their self esteem, but also change their body language and give them confidence to live securely and safely in the society. Also, private institutions, schools, colleges and office places and firms can contribute to provide self defense related education to girls and women. This is the only way to be pre-prepared for anything unfortunate to come one’s way.
