When we’re talking about Bollywood, we must keep it mind that er are talking about biggest entertainment industry in India. You may find a man without knowing of surrounding but can’t find one completely without Bollywood. It has a huge impact on society.
But the worst thing is so much impact is being on wrong direction continuously.
Bollywood portraits women like a sort of perfect beauty, judged and passed by our society. Oops, wearing bikini though, as you know society can’t engulf stories without nudity and then blame heroines again for wearing those. Whatever, it is continuously objectifying women as per their body shape, color and so on.
Ever listen to the Bollywood songs? If you take ‘gandi baat’, implying that how women should never say no, and if they do that, they must be raped.
The super famous film ‘Kabir singh’ direct not only hero, assaulting his girlfriend and other female, but it’s seen that a perfect woman should be one who doesn’t blame for unwilling touch, or any other torment and silently accept it.
Not only in todays, we have some old songs like ‘kabhi kabhi mere dil mai’ which decides that women are not to study , to discover. It’s only men’s work.
Now if you question what’s wrong with that? They are only story… Just what I said, we’re talking about Bollywood here, it doesn’t portrait reality in stories any more. It can imprint their sexist intentions through the stories as reality.
So. It’s too necessary now to change it’s direction of stories. Inspiring stories, contains true regulations for future gender equality, should be made. Comparatively better stories which are getting flops due to shortage of direction and producer’s interests, need to be acknowledged.
And to us, we should focus on banning the films containing those harmful stereotypes. If not, then these films will spread like wildfire and soon engulf our future society. Bollywood is one of those dominant factors which must be changed to make a better way in our society.
