With an increase in the number of crimes against children like kidnapping, molestation, sexual assault, the need to include self- defence in the school curriculum has become a necessity rather than just an option. I believe that self defence should be a core subject in our schools just like English, maths etc.

Why is self-defence an important requirement in today’s time?
Learning self-defence at an early age helps a child to ensure his personal safety and defence. Children are more prone to crimes than adults as they are often considered easy targets and defenceless. Teaching your child self- defence means allowing him to learn how to tackle an impending danger without falling in trap. Learning self- defence allows a child to be more aware of his/her environment, as they are not only trained physically but also mentally. They are taught to deal with the unexpected, hence they are ready for anything. Not only this, but self-defence also helps a student boost his self esteem allowing him to explore his full potential. A child with such abilities can not only rescue himself but also help others in times of distress. Self- defence also helps in empowering of a girl child. A physically and mentally strong girl can protect herself from the crimes that are associated to women.

Self defence raises self-assurance and confidence in children and help them under uncanny situations and also serves as a pathway to a healthy and fit lifestyle. It has become of the basic necessity these days, considering the increasing rates of crimes against children, especially girls. Schools should not merely focus on the educational excellence of children but should also prepare them for the worst. Self- defence is today’s need and its a must in our school-curriculum.

Looking at the number of crimes happening every day especially against girls is alarming enough to include Self-defense training in schools across the country. If self-defense training is included in the school curriculum it will help children to be shielded from abuse and violence. Crimes like child trafficking and child-abusing are rapidly increasing, rape, acid attacks and molestation with girls are increasing every day too, so it will be a big step to curb these crimes. Children catch things quickly so if self-defense is included in the school curriculum from an early age, then there is a possibility that the cases related to children will decrease. There are more perks such as a child who has self-defense training does not need anyone to protect him/her. Along with that, he/she can help others in times of agony. A girl child who can protect herself from dangerous situations can also protect other girls. Empowering girl children with these self-defense techniques along with education will raise the possibility of a safer world for girls. Self-defense classes will boost the confidence of the children. This will help children to protect themselves from unseen dangers. With focusing on education, institutions should also focus on self-defense. It will build a strong personality in children and it will always be a part of their lives.

Self-Defence is said to be when we fight for ourselves against any harmful person. Self Defence should be taught to girls as we know that crimes against women are increasing day by day. No matter what is the age of the woman just because she is a female she has to be harmed by males who have the sick mentality. Every next day we get to read about heinous crimes with a school going girl, an old woman and even with a newborn, Disgusting but true. In this scenario, it has become a necessity to add self-defence training as a crucial part of the curriculum. It will also help them to be safe at a time when no one is there to help them. A woman can fight for herself and this gives her confidence to pursue her dreams without any kind of fear of sexual harassment. A girl needs to understand that her safety is in her hand because no one can be trusted with her integrity.

Including self-defense in the school curriculum sends a powerful message.Girls have the right to defend themselves and deserve to feel safe. By providing equal opportunities for self-defense training, educational institutions promote gender equality and counter the narrative that girls are inherently vulnerable. Such inclusion instills a belief in girls that they are capable of taking charge of their own safety, thereby challenging traditional gender roles and stereotypes. The knowledge that they possess the ability to protect themselves cultivates a sense of personal empowerment, encouraging girls to become proactive rather than fearful. As they gain proficiency in self-defense, girls develop a stronger sense of self-worth, assertiveness, and resilience, which positively impacts various aspects of their lives. Self-defense education fosters a sense of preparedness and empowers girls to navigate their surroundings with increased confidence.

By incorporating self-defense training into the school curriculum, girls are equipped with practical skills to defend themselves against potential threats. These skills encompass both physical techniques and mental strategies, enabling girls to assess risks, make quick decisions, and respond effectively in dangerous situations.
